Christy Melhart Slay co-leads the research activities for The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) to develop a global, transparent, scientifically based measurement and reporting system for environmental and social attributes of consumer products. She also leads efforts to model land-use impacts to biodiversity from the production of consumer goods products, and she works with NGOs and others to increase science and advocacy-based participation in TSC’s work. Melhart Slay has a doctorate in biology and has researched and published on the avian population ecology and conservation management. She has 14 years of experience as an educator in both collegiate and environmental-education settings. Prior to her graduate research, Melhart Slay spent five years in curriculum development and strategic planning with environmental nonprofit organizations including the National Audubon Society, where she also authored articles for Audubon magazine.
